Hey, ya'll, I'm going to send out a reminder email today (Sunday, July 15) reminding you that there's "Pre-Assignment Work" to be done before we meet physically for the first time on Monday, July 23 in the Hasenfeld Library classroom. Far from specious, this is to give us all some beginning common language as we embark on our quest to undestand Web 2.0. I'm rehashing the original post here, boiling it down for you in a bulleted list:
- Revisit that video I sent in an early email. If you haven't, or if you trashed the email, Here's the url for the video (you'll need to be at home: I'll get YouTube unblocked at school for the week of the workshop).
- Check out Kathy Schrock's Web 2.o presentation resources page. This was shared real time with 3,000 teachers the other day at NECC. Look at her list of 2.0 applications. Sheesh, no wonder we need a week to explore...
- Look at another video, this time one that you can view at school (WHAT ARE YOU DOING AT SCHOOL, ANYWAY?!!!) Wiki's in Plain English. Be prepared to laugh. Also begin to stretch your brain a bit to consider how you might use this tool not only with your students but with your teammates and friends.
- Click "Comments" below and add a comment sharing your responses to these assignments. Smile while you're doing it. Be kind. Don't stress. I'm going to have so much to point you to, and you're going to find so much more, that I want you to to start to think of this workshop as only a very, very tiny beginning. Begin at will.
- Oh, I did add a request for you to visit the wiki and make some changes. Grace, you're the star so far! Anything you do there--add to a page, start a discussion topic, post an image, anything will satisfy this "assignment," but you must have successfully logged in to do so. We'll discuss the benefits and dangers of leaving comments and posts open to anonymous edit...
BONUS: A video I shared at one point last year but which you probably didn't get the opportunity to watch--"Introducing the Book." Another YouTube video, so do this from home!

Hey, keepin' them busy, eh?
Kathy
Haha, or not, so I fear! Great to see you in Atlanta! And nice to know who's lurking around expecting to see results! :)
I'm in, fearless leader. Looking forward to it!
I enjoyed the Web 2.0 resources page, found a lot of stuff I didn't know about.
Spent most of today setting up my own NetVibes page. Still thinking on how I can utilize it in the classroom, but had a blast utilizing it just for kicks.
Here is my comment. Late in the game. Trying to catch up on a Saturday morning!
